So fall is certainly in the air. It was a pretty weekend and I spent some quality time at the barn on Sunday, but first, some Sampson news.
I’ve spoiled him a lot obviously, but what else are you supposed to do with a dog that you’ve taught as many tricks as you know how to teach a dog? The vet called with his lab results on Saturday and gave us some good news and some bad news. Good news is that the lesion on his belly was a fatty lipoma. No big deal. The other tumor is the big bad of the two, a mast cell tumor. Obviously it is good that we’ve removed it, but that type is able to manifest on organs within the dog, you know, where I can’t find them. The results showed that it was in the intermediate stages, which means that it could have spread, but at least it wasn’t in the advanced stages. So basically Sampson may develop more tumors in the future, but it will be impossible to tell unless 1) they’re like this one right under the skin or 2) we take our vet up on her offer of referring us to the vet hospital to have him ultrasounded for more tumors. Considering that is very likely a wild goose chase, we aren’t pursuing that option at this time. So for now we’re just crossing our fingers and loving our dog like we have been the last almost three years.
Meanwhile at the barn Copper and Paige both have rain rot and it is more gross than I remember. It has been seven years or so since I’ve dealt with it so obviously I’d forgotten a) how stinky MTG is and b)how fast it goes when applying it to two full grown horses. Needless to say, my MTG is now empty. Everyone in the area must have rain rot because the local tack store was completely out when I went by to get some.
So these two lead really well together now because I go out with two halters and bring them both in. Walking all the way out in the field twice is overrated.
Of course they’ve been spoiled some too. Strawberry bonbons for everyone! I took some cantelope up there yesterday and they loved that too.
I brushed Paige’s tail out yesterday and treated Copper’s dew poisoning. So I’ve basically been doing lots of grooming.
In non-animal related news, my mom taught me how to make biscuits this weekend and Jason’s mom gave us some apple butter so yum.
