Tracy hosted the Christmas Gift Exchange again this year and I told myself after last year that I’d participate this year if at all possible, and I’m so glad I did. I enjoyed buying for the blogger Tracy selected for me and was excited about getting a surprise present from someone else. 🙂
I got home last night after feeding horses and saw a box in the living room and asked Jason what it was, to which he replied, “something for you.” Then I noticed it was (mostly) wrapped in purple zebra print duct tape. Blogger gift!
I didn’t recognize the name of the blogger, but I recognized the town that she hails from as one by the beach where we went as a family when I was a kid, so not very far away.
I opened the box and found individually wrapped presents in a cute wrapping paper. (Sorry to the recipient of my gift, I slacked hardcore on the wrapping of your things. :/)
I was immediately intrigued by the turquoise embroidery on the cloth. Someone had done their homework and read up on me it seems. 🙂 I opened the card next to see who this blogger was, Julie at kickinsand.blogspot.com! Apparently Julie grew up nearby and comes to the area frequently, so a blogger meet up is very likely to happen in the future. 🙂
As I said, Julie has apparently researched me pretty well, because I swear she gave me a whole bag of peppermints, likely because I have so many horses…they will all be most grateful…especially Paige. 😉
The first package I opened was the small one, which contained a tube of Gypsy Wave all natural lip balm, which is MUCH appreciated this time of year, and a tin of leather cleaner! I’ve been using the lip balm since last night and love the scent and feel of it. I plan to use the leather cleaner tonight possibly to clean my leather halter for an upcoming project (assuming I remember to grab it when at the barn tonight).
I opened the middle sized gift next to save the large one for last. This gift will probably get a lot of use…a set of rope reins! My old set is a) over 15 years old and b) barrel racing length, and way too short for the long and low that is more typical of my riding now. I never barrel raced (the thought of me running barrels would send my friends into fits of giggles) but I was using the old rope reins on Logan back in the day, and his headset was very UP compared to how I ride currently. Oh saddlebreds. Anyway, these NEW rope reins are the bomb and I can’t wait to try them. I swear Julie is psychic because she picked the exact pair I’ve been eye balling and procrastinating on. The colors will go great with everyone’s halters and will make it easier to use my spare headstalls without having to take my regular reins off of my regular headstall. Switching out the bit on my regular headstall is a pain in the butt (chicago screws…ugh) so being able to use an old one without completely dismantling my regular setup to try a different bit is a nice option.
The last gift had some weight to it, so I really wasn’t sure what to expect, but I wasn’t expecting a personalized saddle blanket! With turquoise embroidery, naturally. Julie really outdid herself with these gifts! It will probably be a while before I use the saddle blanket since I’m not really riding right now since it is so cold. Also…99.9% positive my saddles won’t fit Paige again until after April. Though if it ever were to fit, it would be with this blanket under the saddle instead of a full pad…hmmm…
I’m so excited to use my new things! Thank you so much Julie! I look forward to reading your blog and learning more about you! And big thanks to Tracy for organizing this every year. 🙂
